In yet another move to strengthen tenant protections, the Antioch City Council this week approved a new set of rules to ensure against landlord retaliation and harassment. The action came after more than a year of tenants and supporters advocating for help and after the council considered a draft review and later approved a first reading of revised ordinance in July. That version, however, advanced with changes on its second reading with Councilwoman Monica Wilson absent, Councilman Mike Barbanica recusing himself and Councilwoman Lori Ogorchock dissenting, requiring it to return for a first reading. On Tuesday, though, after hearing more than two hours of public comments and discussion, the City Council voted 3-to-1 to approve the latest version of rules, with Ogorchock dissenting and Barbanica again recusing himself.“This legislation that we’re voting on today is not the exact same one as it was a few weeks ago,” Thorpe said. “…The implication here is about the landlord&...Mystery investor buys nearly 60 acres in South Bay hills from Arrillaga trust

SAUSALITO, Calif. (KRON) -- Residents who live at Portofino Riviera woke up to eviction notices on their doors informing them they have to be moved out within two months. Among those being evicted is 93-year-old Ursula Goldstone who has lived at this apartment complex for nearly nine years and has called Sausalito home for decades. “It takes all my energy to not burst out to tears when I think about it,” Goldstone said. Scientists solve deep-sea ‘Octopus Garden’ mystery off California coast Goldstone says her health has started to decline, but living at her waterfront apartment is what has kept her going. To pack up at this stage is extremely upsetting,” Goldstone said. Portofino Riviera is a 40-unit apartment complex located on Main Street. NEW YORK (AP) — Fox News Channel’s two-hour Republican presidential debate was halfway through when moderator Bret Baier said he wanted to take a brief moment to talk about “the elephant not in the room” — Donald Trump and his four criminal indictments.Up until that point the former president, who skipped the debate and has a large lead in polls for the 2024 GOP nomination, had hardly been mentioned by his eight rivals on a Milwaukee stage on Wednesday. The reluctance to talk about the topic was evident, but the 10 minutes when it was discussed included some of the debate’s more electric moments. When asked for a show of hands on how many would support Trump as the GOP nominee if he were convicted of a crime, six indicated they would. Two former governors, New Jersey’s Chris Christie and Arkansas’ Asa Hutchinson, were the exceptions. The audience booed Christie for saying that Trump’s conduct should not be normalized. “Booing is allowed,” he said. “But it doesn’...Bayern and Dortmund take on local rivals as Bundesliga marks its 60th birthday

He then went back to London for the birth of his fourth child. The win over Bremen marked a return to business as usual for Bayern after losing to Leipzig 3-0 in the German Super Cup on Kane’s debut a week before. Next up on Sunday is a team which has given Bayern plenty of difficulty in recent years.Augsburg, the only other top-division team in Bayern’s home state of Bavaria, has won twice against Bayern in their last five games. Even when Bayern does win, it’s anything but easy, as the 5-3 scoreline in their last game in March showed.Thursday marked 60 years since the Bundesliga launched as the first nationwide league in what was then West Germany. KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (AP) — “That’s where I got shot,” said Rashaad Woods, nodding toward a convenience store in Knoxville’s “gun zone.” There were bullet holes in a church’s walls. Nearby was a shuttered nightclub where some people were killed.“There was a point in time I wasn’t comfortable standing here,” said Kodi Mills, 45. “But that time is passing.”The men work for Turn Up Knox, a year-old program that mentors kids and defuses situations that could escalate into violence. It’s a centerpiece of the Tennessee city’s attempt to follow a science-based playbook in fighting a surge in shootings. Research reviews have begun to conclude there’s enough evidence to say which public health interventions prevent shootings, which don’t, and which need more study. Knoxville is one of a growing number of cities teaming with researchers to develop an evidence-based plan to stop the bleeding.Knoxville’s program includes policing changes and other efforts.
