Pacers make early splash by agreeing to 2-year, $45 million deal with Bruce Brown, source says INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Bruce Brown Jr. is leaving the NBA champion Denver Nuggets for a two-year, $45 million deal with the Indiana Pacers, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Friday. The person requested anonymity because the deal has not yet been announced publicly and said the deal includes a team option for the second year.Brown started 31 games and was a key contributor in the playoffs for the Nuggets last season. He averaged 11.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists during the regular season.Denver wanted to keep Brown, but was prevented by salary cap rules from offering a deal anywhere near the one the Pacers offered. Indiana was trying to get younger and better defensively on the perimeter before last week’s NBA draft. But trading partners wanted Indiana’s No. 7 overall pick — something the Pacers were unwilling to do.Instead, they made a rare early splash in free agency by adding the 26-year-old Brown to a young, emerging roster led by A...

Chicago Bulls in free agency: Jevon Carter joins on a 3-year deal, while Coby White and Andre Drummond return The Chicago Bulls brought in their first new player of the summer when NBA free agency opened Friday, signing guard Jevon Carter to a three-year deal, according to a report by ESPN.After two seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, Carter hit the free agency market after declining his player option. He reportedly signed a $20 million deal with the Bulls. For the Bulls, Carter fills a wide variety of needs facing the roster this offseason. He’s a consistent contributor — logging 81 games last season — and brings a hardened edge to the perimeter that should mesh quickly with a Bulls defense that finished fifth in the league last year. Most importantly, Carter could be a game changer for the Bulls as they attempt to break out of their position as the worst 3-point shooting team in the league. Carter shot 42.1% from behind the arc last season and took 4.2 attempts per game off the bench — a number that would have placed him third overall on the Bulls roster. This signing w...

He could replace left-hander David Peterson in the rotation next week. He’s on track to reach the expected July timeline the club targeted after he underwent bone graft surgery to remove a lesion on his left rib during spring training. The rotation could get crowded.“We haven’t said that very much this year,” manager Buck Showalter said Friday night before the Mets began a series with the San Francisco Giants. “But I hope it does get crowded.”Peterson and right-hander Tylor Megill were supposed to be depth options this season but they’ve been used in place of injured arms. But they have both taken giant steps backward this season. Peterson ...
