NEW YORK (AP) — In the cramped confines of a New York City subway tunnel, work crews labored to lift hulking rail cars back onto the tracks after two passenger trains collided and derailed, causing service disruptions that stretched into a second day Friday. The low-speed crash left the trains blocking both the local and express tracks in the northbound direction, which means partial service can only be restored once the derailed train is out of the way, said Janno Lieber, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority chair, at briefing in front of the station Friday morning. However, getting the last of the train’s 10 cars onto the rails is a complicated operation because of the subway tunnel’s low ceiling, said NYC Transit President Richard Davey.“The final car of the passenger train that derailed, there’s no room, right?” Davey said. “This is a tunnel.”Transit workers are “literally lifting it a few inches, shimmying it over, lifting it a few, shimmying it over,” Davey said. “So ...Daughter of principal wounded in Iowa shooting describes dad as a ‘gentle giant’

New York (CNN) — Some Verizon customers might have found an unexpected surprise in the mail this week: An opportunity to receive a refund as part of a proposed $100 million settlement from a class-action lawsuit.Eligible customers are receiving postcards or emails alerting them to file a claim by April 15 to receive up to $100, which is the result of the lawsuit accusing Verizon of charging fees that were “unfair and not adequately disclosed.”At issue is Verizon’s “administrative charge,” which the plaintiffs said were “misleading” because that fee wasn’t disclosed in their plan’s advertised monthly price and were charged in a “deceptive and unfair manner.”Verizon has denied the claims and said in a statement that it “clearly identifies and describes its wireless consumer admin charge multiple times during the sales transaction, as well as in its marketing, contracts and billing.”A company spokesperson said that the charge “helps our company recover certain regulatory...German prosecutors launch probe into suspected sabotage of LNG pipeline

German federal prosecutors have opened an investigation into a suspected case of sabotage after small holes were found in a liquefied natural gas pipeline under construction in the north of Germany. Prosecutors have taken over an “investigation into the initial suspicion of anti-constitutional sabotage,” a spokeswoman for the Federal Public Prosecutor General told German public broadcaster NDR.At least three ten-millimeter holes appeared to have been drilled at various places along the 55-kilometer-long pipeline, according to media reports. Gasunie, the company building the pipeline, first reported the holes attributable “to external interference” to police in November. “All defects have been identified and most of them have already been repaired,” Gasunie reported on Thursday. The LNG pipeline is expected to be operational in February, several weeks after its planned start. “We are expecting everything to be leak-proof because we...Former Tory energy minister quits as MP over Sunak’s ‘harmful’ push for new oil and gas
