Broncos draft preview: After trading Bradley Chubb and quiet offseason so far, is help on the edge Denver’s biggest need?

Published Mon, 10 Mar 2025 03:31:57 GMT

Editor’s note: This is the seventh in a series of NFL draft previews as it relates to the Broncos. Today: Edge rushers April 10: Quarterbacks | April 11: Running backs | April 12: Wide receivers | April 13: Tight ends | Friday: Offensive line | Tuesday: Defensive lineThursday: Inside linebackers Broncos’ in-house offseason moves: None.Under contract: Randy Gregory (four years), Nik Bonitto (three years), Baron Browning (two years), Jacob Martin (two years), Jonathon Cooper (two years), Christopher Allen (two years), Aaron Patrick (one year).Need scale (1-10): 8. On paper, Gregory and Browning starting with Cooper and Martin playing support and Bonitto growing in his second year seems… fine. But Gregory had another injury-plagued season to start his Broncos tenure in 2022 and Browning missed time, too. Bonitto looked ready to surge in the middle of the season but struggled down the stretch and knows he must be a more consistent practice player to get where he wants to go. It al...

Kiszla: Avs coach Jared Bednar must make bold decision to split up Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen after 3-1 loss to Kraken

Published Mon, 10 Mar 2025 03:31:57 GMT

One lousy game into the NHL playoffs, being the defending champion means zilch, and Avalanche coach Jared Bednar has a tough decision to make.Does Bednar break up his top line, splitting Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen before frustration has a chance to set in against a Seattle team that didn’t give a Kraken about the Avs’ championship pedigree during a 3-1 victory in Game 1 of this best-of-seven-series?Or would asking Rantanen to invigorate a No. 2 line that has been suspect since the Avs let Nazem Kadri walk as a free agent be pushing the panic button?Your move, Mr. Bednar.Proactive or patient? How should the leader of a champ that looks very vulnerable react? Will Bednar consider breaking up the MacK and Mikko show?“Yes, for sure,” Bednar said Tuesday, after the home-ice advantage his Avs worked diligently for all the way through the final minutes on the final night of the regular season was effectively erased by the Kraken. This is one of those tough decisions that weighs on t...

Opinion: California single-payer bill is incremental step to disaster

Published Mon, 10 Mar 2025 03:31:57 GMT

The California Senate will hold a hearing today on a bill that would lay the groundwork for a government takeover of the state’s health care system.Legislators have been trying to install single-payer health care for years. But this new effort has a better chance of advancing than its legislative forebears. That should concern Californians, who would face long waits for subpar care under a system of state-run health insurance.Sponsored by Sen. Scott Wiener, D-San Francisco, Senate Bill 770 would require the Newsom administration to pursue a federal waiver that would free up Medicare and Medicaid dollars for the state to establish a “unified financing” system for health care. It’s unclear whether the Biden administration would approve such a waiver. But the fact that SB 770 focuses on how to fund a single-payer system sets it apart from previous plans.Consider SB 562, a single-payer bill progressives introduced in 2017.
