NEW YORK (AP) — It all started on a late morning on a highway. A camera panned to the cab of a large semi-trailer truck. The driver wore a plaid shirt and a day's growth of beard. Next to him was a mysterious hitchhiker in expensive clothes that were ripped and a fresh head wound. He got out at Genoa City. And he stayed. That’s how “The Young and the Restless ” began on March 26, 1973, and a lot of people also stuck around Genoa City. The soap opera celebrates its 50th anniversary this month as the No. 1 daytime drama for 35 consecutive years, with fans growing up alongside the actors.“I think a huge reason why the audience has stuck with us for so long is because we are the same people. We are family members. We show up every day — sometimes more than a regular family member,” says Lauralee Bell, a star and daughter of the show's founders.Created by the late William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell, “The Young and the Restless” concerns the goings-on of several Midwes...Foot Locker to close 400 mall locations: report

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell announced a 0.25 percentage point rate hike on Wednesday after a closely watched meeting of the central bank’s rate-setting committee, which many analysts had been hoping would result in a pause.Prioritizing concerns about inflation over recent instability in the banking sector, which has spurred interventions from both the government and larger U.S. banks, Powell called the financial sector “sound and resilient.”But he also dropped some hints that things may not be as peaceful as they appear on the surface and as government officials have been saying they are. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen told a banking group this week financial conditions were stabilizing.Powell also acknowledged that the failure of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) that sparked the wider crisis in the banking industry happened despite the engagement of the Fed’s supervisory regulators.Still rising: Fed hikes rates despite concerns over banking crisisHere’s a recap of the most import...The Sk8 Show Vacancy Gallery, taking place Saturday, Mar. 25

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Nuggets coach Michael Malone was frustrated and dumbfounded before he perked up at the sound of cuss words. On the way back to the halftime locker room Wednesday night, after the Nuggets had sleep-walked through the first two quarters and were actually down two to the hometown Wizards, Malone trailed Jamal Murray in the hallway when he heard some encouraging words.“We’re (BS-ing) right now,” Malone recounted hearing from his star point guard after the Nuggets bludgeoned Washington in the second half to seize a 118-104 win.Malone heard his fiery playmaker raise his voice and question the effort and intensity they’d just displayed. With nine games left in the regular season, the first half was hardly the type of basketball that would engender any optimism heading into the playoffs. And yet, Malone was heartened by the fact that one of his two star players felt compelled to raise their voice and criticize.“I thought he was a leader tonight,” Malone said. “… We need our...'My second tow truck this month': Potholes a recurring headache for Southern California drivers

After months of rainstorms and flooding, potholes have appeared or worsened on Southern California streets and freeways, damaging vehicles and snarling traffic.Multiple cars were damaged on the 210 Freeway Wednesday night near the Baldwin Avenue exit, just hours after similar issues that morning.A driver named Adam said his family has experienced multiple issues with potholes on the freeway."They patch it, and it goes away," he said. "More potholes. My wife had one this month earlier, so this is my second tow truck this month on the 210 Freeway, and it probably won't be the last, so that is really frustrating."Earlier this week, the 71 Freeway in Pomona experienced similar issues near the Holt Avenue exit.Repairing the damage done by potholes can be costly — about $600, according to AAA — and while that is usually covered by car insurance, it may not be worth filing a claim if you have a high deductible. Instead, drivers can file a claim with the government. Caltrans, which handles...Forever Endeavor — Genevieve Artadi’s Forever Forever is a love album for the ages

Forever Endeavor: The last time we spoke to L.A. artist Genevieve Artadi was in August 2020. The pandemic was six months in and still raging, and showing no signs of letting up. Concerts were on hold, along with the rest of our lives. The whole thing feels like a fever dream.Artadi had just released the Dizzy Strange Summer album which, while written prior to the pandemic, offered an ideal soundtrack to the trauma. It felt both relevant and soothing. The new album Forever Forever is different but similar in that regard.“I recorded the album in Mexico,” Artadi says, via a phone interview. “We went to this beautiful studio called El Desierto, and it’s just the most gorgeous place ever. But we had to cut the first session short because we got COVID. We went home, and recorded the rest of the album. Because we were on such a time crunch and I wanted it to have a live feeling, and a unified sound which is really different from Dizzy Strange Summer, we were recording things three people a...Latest news
