Tupperware shares, latest meme stock darling, up 140% By Nicole Goodkind | CNNThe meme traders are back. Shares of Tupperware(TUP) have exploded by about 140% this week and nearly 300% over the last month for no discernible reason. The Florida-based container company has been in hot water for some time. Sales are on the decline and Tupperware even warned that it was on the brink of bankruptcy in April. In early June, the New York Stock Exchange even notified Tupperware that it was in noncompliance with the exchange’s rules because its market capitalization was too low, less than $50 million, over a period of 30 trading days. Tupperware’s average closing price, the notification said, was also less than $1 for that period – below the exchange’s threshold. In early July, Blackrock stepped in as an investment partner to Tupperware, possibly to help them manage their debt load. But no new material announcements or changes have been made since then. The surge in stock price would make some sense if there was any indication that the company had b...

$2 million “wedding nightmare” in Aspen due to audio malfunction, lawsuit says As he reflected on the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor, President Franklin D. Roosevelt famously referred to Dec. 7, 1941, as “a date which will live in infamy.”As he reflected on cold food and a concert by Nelly in court documents, real estate developer Craig Spencer less famously referred to March 26, 2022, as “a day that will go down in infamy.”That is the day that his daughter married her husband. Or, in Spencer’s words, the day that his family endured “a horrific wedding nightmare costing over two million dollars.”On Tuesday, Spencer and his wife, Barbara, sued Alchemy Concert Systems, a company in the small Western Slope town of Carbondale, for its alleged role in that nightmare. The nuptials of Arielle Spencer and Caleb Hodge last March were to be a spare-no-expense dream wedding atop Aspen Mountain, complete with a gondola ride, a 12-piece band flown in from Los Angeles and a private performance by a once-prominent rapper. The event was overseen by Mindy Weiss, wedding planne...

Beleaguered Pac-12 says it will pursue expansion with Colorado, USC and UCLA all leaving next year The Pac-12 Conference issued a statement aimed at stability after Colorado became the third school in a year to announce plans to leave. The nine schools remaining for the 2024-25 season were largely silent Friday. Colorado on Thursday announced it would join the Big 12 beginning in 2024, joining Big Ten-bound Southern California and UCLA in an exodus that could continue in coming weeks and months. Their departures coincide with the expiration of the league’s current media rights deals and the Pac-12 has not yet announced a lucrative deal going forward.Shortly after CU’s regents approved the move to the Big 12, the Pac-12 issued a statement pledging to soldier on. Possible Pac-12 expansion targets could include San Diego State and SMU.“We are focused on concluding our media rights deal and securing our continued success and growth,” the Pac-12 said. “Immediately following the conclusion of our media rights deal, we will embrace expansion opportunities and bring new fans...

IR, PUP, NFI. What do all of those NFL roster designations mean?

IR, PUP, NFI. What do all of those NFL roster designations mean? NFL players compete all offseason and through training camp to make the active roster of their current team — or perhaps even elsewhere. But staying there isn’t easy. Especially with injuries a constant factor in such a physical sport. When the regular season begins, each team can have up to 53 players on its active roster. That comes after three cutdowns during the summer from the 90-player rosters with which teams open training camp. Players could end up having other roster designations as teams try to upgrade positions or compensate for injuries at certain spots. But what do they mean — to the players and teams?INJURED RESERVEOfficially, it’s called the reserve/injured list but is commonly referred to simply as IR. Teams place players on this list when they have a football-related injury and will need to miss at least a few weeks. Players on IR don’t count against the active roster. If a player is placed on this list before the regular season begins, he’s for...
