MILAN (AP) — An activist network that supports rescue operations in the Mediterranean Sea is accusing Italy of failing to offer timely assistance to a smugglers’ boat in distress, resulting in a deadly shipwreck that left at least 30 migrants missing and presumed dead in Libya’s search-and-rescue area.Seventeen survivors were rescued in an operation about 100 miles off the Libyan coast Sunday partially coordinated by the Italian Coast Guard. The incident comes two weeks after another shipwreck off the coast of southern Italy left at least 79 people dead. The wrecks have focused attention on Italian and European protocols for responding to suspected smuggling boats; crossings through the deadly central Mediterranean Sea have doubled over past year. The migrants in the most recent incident died when their wooden boat capsized as a merchant vessel, the Froland, approached the boat in distress that was carrying nearly 50 people. Expert explains what to look for

(NEXSTAR) - You may have a collection of state quarters you've been working on for years, or a stash of $2 bills you hope have some worth. But when it comes to our currency, are there really any that are worth more than they were meant to be?If you're a currency collector, you know the answer already: yes, there are some dollars and coins that carry a higher value than the U.S. Mint printed on them originally. Pennies adorned with wheat, for example, could be as worth as much as $1,500 if the date next to President Abraham Lincoln's head is just right. Sometimes called a 'wheatie,' those that were never circulated could be worth twice as much. But how can you tell if your penny, quarter, or $2 bill is worth more than $2.26? $2, or more? How rarely seen bills could be worth beyond their printed value "The answer is not always obvious," Dustin Johnson, Vice President of Numismatics (the study or collection of coins, paper money, and medals) at Heritage Auctions tells Nexstar. AUSTIN (KXAN) — With this year's South By Southwest Festival returning to a full in-person format, searches for Austin hotels on the Hotels.com app have increased tenfold, according to the company. That also means that hotels are becoming even more expensive. Hotels.com said the average room rate within the city during the festival is hovering at around $315 per night. However, if you'd like to stay close to the action, you can expect to pay a hefty premium. The company says hotels in downtown Austin are charging between $500 and $1,000 per night, with some going for even more. "It gets a little less expensive as you move out," said Expedia Group Spokesperson Melanie Fish. "But starting last week, some people I think started canceling their reservations, and all of a sudden there was a little bit of availability. The Driscoll for $400 a night. The Aloft Hotel for around $350. So if you hit it just right, you can still find downtown places to stay."If you're hoping to fly in just for...Latest news
